A lot of my business connections are made through social media interaction, and whilst I try to have a break over the weekend (usually scheduling a couple of posts) I was browsing through Twitter one Sunday evening, and came across a thread by Theo Paphitis.
I love Dragons' Den, and anything similar, and realised I was following a thread hashtag "Small Business Sunday". Small Business Sunday, also known as #SBS is made up of many small business followers.
It turns out that Theo Paphitis runs a weekly competition, which has been going for quite a few years. Every Sunday, between 5-7.30pm, businesses tweet Theo, describing themselves, and adding why they deserve to join the other #SBS Winners. You have to include a standout visual, and attract his attention, showing your determination and what winning would mean.
So I entered.
I tried for 3 weeks, and was up against many amazing businesses over the country. I tried again for the 4th time..
The 6 winners are announced every Monday at 8pm...and I won!! My husband didn't believe me!! :-)
I was later emailed details of how to join the Tuesday Night Small Business Winners Group on Twitter, how to access Theo's website which contains much marketing material, and exciting and interesting business information. I was also invited to make my winner's badge!
Every week you can be the host of the group, and engage with likeminded people in business. It has been a real boost to my business, plus a huge boost to myself, following such a horrible year. I admit, like many others, tiredness has kicked in following the juggle of home schooling and working from home alongside, especially as a lot of the work was out of the ordinary - furlough calculations, claims, emergency cashflows, grant assistance, etc..
I was so over the moon that a Bookkeeping Practice won!
Tuesday night winner's group was amazing, and one I will regularly attend. The 6 winners were warmly welcomed, and I must have doubled my followers in the space of an hour! There is an annual event that all winners can attend - covid permitting - something to look forward to!
